Drum Corp Workshop Success

Members of the Cheshire Police Drum Corps travelled from all over Cheshire, despite the snow, to show the keen youngsters at Macclesfield Youth Brass Band just what a drum corps can do. Around 15 of MYBB’s own percussionists, aged 7 to 17 years plus a few parents, were soon learning to march, play the different drums and even swing the sticks.

Louise Renshaw, MYBB chair said,

“Today has been a lot of fun. We are now inspired to start our own drum corps and will be looking to acquire suitable instruments, harnesses and sticks as soon as possible. I think it will be a fantastic addition to the three brass bands that we already run and I can’t wait to see them performing in public”

Roll Up For Drumming Session

Macclesfield Youth Brass Band is hosting a Drum Corps Workshop with the help of Cheshire Police Band Drum Corps this Sunday 5th February at Morton Hall on Union Road in Macclesfield.

The event is open to budding young drummers aged from 7 years upwards and will hopefully provide a launchpad for the band to create its own drum corp in the future. Louise Renshaw, Chair of the band’s trustees explains,

“We have a raft of young percussionists progressing through the ranks of our three bands and this is a way to develop their skills and give them a new challenge. If it takes off I hope that we will have a drum corp which could support the youth band when they perform at community events and parades. My thanks to the Cheshire Police Drum Corps for giving their time to come and show us how its done.”

Meatloaf Tribute Night

For a fun night out between Christmas and New Year come along to Broken Cross Club on Thursday 29th December for a Meatloaf tribute night featuring Stars in Their Eyes winner Terry Nash (he also does Blues Brothers and there is a disco).

Victoria Park – Community Carols

Members of Macclesfield Youth and Junior bands will be playing carols at 7pm in Victoria Park on Friday 23rd December. The bandstand will be festooned with lights as locals celebrate the launch of the new Friends of Victoria Park group.
