About Us

History

Macclesfield Youth Brass Band (MYBB) was formed in September 2005. We are a registered charity (Reg. Charity No.1112420) and an accredited member of the Youth Federation and a member of the British Federation of Brass Bands.

MYBB currently has over 120 members aged between 7 and 19 years old. We have a Youth band, a Junior band, a Training band and several smaller groups for beginners. All of our tutors and helpers give their time and expertise on a voluntary basis.

We pride ourselves on our modern and dynamic approach. We know that young people love playing in bands, they love the music, the team spirit and the social side too so we provide the best experiences we can to keep them motivated and committed to a hobby which relies on their commitment.

The band has rehearsed at Morton Hall in the heart of Macclesfield since its inception but in 2011, the size of membership dictated that we moved our Training section to the Fallibroome Academy where it has continued to flourish.

MYBB has gained recognition for many innovative projects designed to encourage inclusion in music making for all children. These include our asthma scheme in conjunction with the pediatric respiratory department at Macclesfield General Hospital and initiatives to support children with special educational or physical needs.

We continue to offer membership of the band at the very low cost of just over £1 per week including the loan of an instrument where required.
